Who Can Change Humanity?

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

The power to effect change in humanity lies within the individual. That means YOU. That means ME.

Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I have a dream” speech two years before I was born. He was assassinated when I was three.

Even so, a lower-than-middle-income white girl from a north-western farm grew up hearing his name. Mom believed in the equality of all God’s children. She told me about King’s speech many times, and the part that clenched in my chest was when he said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

I hope my grandchildren will know a nation where people are judged by the content of their character. We haven’t realized King's dream. We must try harder. So much harder.

The power to effect change in humanity lies within the individual. That means you. That means me.

MEMORY PROMPT: How can you, individually, make a positive change in humanity?
