Where Memories Reside

Updated: Sep 14, 2021

Memories reside in our fingertips. Our noses. Our ears. Our lips. Under our skin. Waiting for us to Remember.

My husband and I saw the movie “The Post” last night. I’m giving it five stars, which is always my rating when I learn something I didn't know before. It’s important to learn about the past so we can use the information to shape our future decisions. The thing that hit me the hardest was a piece of the wardrobe, specifically, the dress Meryl Streep wore in the last scene of the film. I nearly gasped when I saw it. I leaned over and whispered to David, “Grandma Vernie had that exact dress!” So, kudos to the film’s costume designer for hitting the mark. When I saw that dress, I could feel the silk slipping through my fingers.

I remembered how it felt to hug my grandmother when she was wearing it. It reminded me of a moment from my third book, “The Moment Girl,” when just by looking at Jocelyn’s hand, Riley recalled how it felt each time she curled her fingers through his.

It is my opinion that memories reside in our fingertips, so it became Riley's opinion, too. He said, “Memories reside in our fingertips. Our noses. Our ears. Our lips. Just under our skin. Waiting for us to remember.”

MEMORY PROMPT: Have you experienced it? An aroma or a touch or a song that arouses a memory so vividly, you know it’s just been waiting all this time for you to remember it? #MomsCompanyTowels #MemoriesInOurFingertips #MerylStreepInGrandmasDress
