Day 62

Day 62: Happy Smatterday! And happy 84th birthday to my Aunt Mardi, who happens to be my mom’s favorite little sister. Since it’s Stories Week, I’ll tell you a story about her.

She is the youngest of four daughters. Mom used to tell me stories about when Mardi was born. LaRee, Colleen, and my mom were so excited to have another sister. They were all old enough to help care for her and spent hours and hours dressing her up in every ensemble imaginable. My mom had just turned seven when Mardi was born, and said it was like getting a real live baby doll for her birthday. Mom would reminisce about all the fun they had together.

Mom painted a very rosy picture, so you can imagine my surprise when Mardi was helping me write my mom’s life sketch and told me that when Grandma left mom to babysit Mardi, she would shove her outside and lock the door. And when Grandma would come home to find Mardi outside, she would say, “Well, what did you do wrong? Deanie wouldn’t lock you out without a reason.”

Hmm, sisters might lock you out of the house once in a while, but they let you into their hearts, and that’s what matters, most. Right? Happy birthday, Aunt Mardi! I hope nobody locks you out today!! #MomsCompanyTowels #sisters
