Day 43

Day 43: Ah, the Month of Love! Did you know that yesterday was National Peppermint Patty Day? I’m not sure if this day honors Charlie Brown’s somewhat pushy but well-meaning friend, or the delectable candy confection, but since my mom LOVED the candy, that’s what I’m mulling over on this Mullday.

When I was little, the Sears store in my hometown had a candy counter - with sparkling glass windows that protected the bins of candy from eager taste testers. Everything was sold “by the pound” and I thought it was incredibly interesting to watch as the candy counter clerk dropped the candy, piece by piece, onto the scale.

My mother was an aficionado of the dollar mints, which were the very same as peppermint patties. I thought a whole dollar for one mint was a little pricey, but my mom explained that they were the same size as a silver dollar. She said she knew that because her parents owned a general store in their little town. In fact, she learned all kinds of interesting things from working in the store. I may need to dedicate a whole week to the education she received at Mallory’s Department Store.

But for today, take a moment to be grateful for peppermint fondant enrobed in dark chocolate. Mom called them the perfect couple. #MomsCompanyTowels #PeppermintAndChocolate #ThePerfectCouple #candycounterlove
