Day 354

Me, under the Christmas tree

Day 354: One of the benefits of having poor eyesight, and there aren’t that many, mind you, is that blurry vision makes Christmas lights absolutely spectacular. For this reason, I have always loved gazing up at Christmas trees from the floor, exhibited in this photograph of my childhood. The little music box inside the stable of our nativity played Silent Night. Apparently, the music and the lights lulled me to sleep.

Last weekend we had the privilege of attending the Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert. It is such a blessing to see and hear David perform. My mother loved the choir. She listened to their records all year long, and especially at Christmas. I distinctly remember her removing a red vinyl album from its sleeve and holding it carefully by its edges to line up the middle hole with the spindle of the record player. When I watch David singing, it feels like my mother is there in spirit, tickled pink to listen to David in the choir with me.

The Christmas lights and the beautiful music weave together to form a glorious testimony of Christ. It could lull me to sleep if I let it, but I don’t want to miss a note. Although, I do confess that I sometimes take off my glasses and pretend I’m listening from underneath the tree.
