Day 320

Get on your feet and on your way.

Day 320: Lesson Learned: Mom used to say “Bedridden is too close to the grave for me. Help me get on my feet.”

She may have been mostly home-bound, but she refused to be bed-ridden. In high school, I remember her standing at my bedroom door, watching me. I was sitting in the middle of my bed, surrounded by textbooks and homework. When I looked up at her, she said “Honey, you really can’t get anything done that way. Get out of bed and get to work.” I didn’t argue over the difference between “in bed” and “on the bed.” I just gathered my stuff and sat at the kitchen table. She was right. I accomplished more that way.

Every time I raise my spiffy desk at work to its standing position, I can hear Mom say “Get on your feet and on your way.”
