Day 294

Line upon line. Precept upon precept.

Day 294: This week was filled with first-time realizations. I wrote about the moment when I realized I will have questions about Heavenly little boys until I get to heaven for the answers; when I realized I can insert myself into the family history if I see the photos and hear the stories often enough; when I realized I need to unplug now and then; when I realized I do not love to be scared; when I realized I’m a germaphobe; and when I realized my life could be problematic.

But all of those examples are anecdotal—only a smattering of the realizations I chose to share. We all have realizations every day, and most of them are probably not stories we would choose to share.

By Oxford’s definition, a realization is the act of becoming aware of something as fact.

Realizations can be shocking, funny, humbling, sobering, and heartbreaking. But, by “becoming aware of something as fact” we are gaining an understanding of ourselves, and with that new understanding, we can choose how to respond to life and the realizations it provides. Oprah calls them “Aha moments.” The Lord calls it learning wisdom “line upon line and precept upon precept.”

Realizations are the stepping stones that create life’s path, and as you journey along yours, I hope you experience the joy amongst the somber.
