Day 289

It felt more like a memory than an imagining

Day 289: When did you realize you weren’t always part of the family? Have you seen an old family photo so many times you began convincing yourself you were there? Have you seen a photo of yourself at a really young age - far younger than would be possible to remember - yet you feel like you CAN remember it?

As the youngest in our family, I have grown up listening to the stories and seeing the photos, and after awhile, those stories and photos began feeling like memories to me.

I have essentially inserted myself into all family history moments. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this. It would make me feel so much better.

One of my characters has a very active imagination and at one point he says “it felt more like a memory than an imagining.” Is the fact that I wrote this line for him somehow indicative of my own mental state? Probably.

Or maybe I just saw the photo.
