Day 288

River Rocks, by JanaLee Cox Longhurst. Little Boys are good with rocks. They see the awesomeness in a stone worn smooth. They know its value in a playground trade. They know which stones will skip the farthest. They can spot the keepers best for pockets. Angel Boys are best with rocks. They place them perfectly for finding. A river rock on the bank when we need to go with the flow. A stumbling block on our path when we need to redirect. A pebble in a shoe when barefoot would be better. A skipping stone for our palm when we need reminding that Heaven is only a stone's throw away.

Day 288: I filled last week with POTATO anecdotes. I bet you didn’t think I could.

Well, this week is all about realizations. Their timing and lessons taught are different for us all. For example, when did you realize that people aren’t permanent? I was very young when death was explained to me.

Today is Infant Loss Day. I have four children, but I also had a miscarriage between our boys. Back then, we were told not to worry about it. To just try again. I still have questions. Is that child part of our family? Is there a little boy in heaven waiting for us?

My realization grew deeper each time a loved one was lost. People are not permanent. When my son and daughter-in-law lost their infant son last year, I gave them this poem. I wrote it for all of us who have a loved one, especially a little boy, watching out for us from heaven, and leaving reminders to let us know. Found any cool rocks lately?
