Day 257

What will you take? What will you leave behind?

Day 257: Fires, Floods, Evacuations, and Super Powers

Several months ago, I conducted book research on Facebook by asking my friends what super power they would choose. I received many responses. Clearly, as the mere humans we are, we have given some thought to this question.

Today my superpower of choice would be to manipulate the weather by moving the flooding of the East Coast to douse the flames licking away at the mountains around us.

Alternatively, I would choose the power to create force fields over towns that would protect them from the onslaught of natural disaster.

Families are being told to EVACUATE.

Do you have a contingency plan? After the Teton Dam flood, my mother instituted a contingency plan. If we were called to evacuate, we knew what we were supposed to grab on our way to the truck: the file drawer full of genealogy, the photo albums full of childhood memories, and the folder of legal documents and birth certificates.

Nowadays, those things are all stored “safe and sound” in the cloud. At least, we think they are.

What about you? What would you grab? What’s in the cloud? What could you do without? And what could you NOT do without? These are questions we need to ask ourselves now. Because, until I get bit by a radioactive spider and sprout my superpowers, we are all going to need a contingency plan. #momscompanytowels #contingencyplans #fireandflood
