Day 256

Day 256: Who is old enough to remember that there was a famous disco move called The Hustle? My husband and I were pretty good at The Hustle. We can still pull off a decent version, but our children tell us “no one wants to see that,” so we refrain . . . most of the time.

My mom used to say that life is a dance no one knows the steps to, so we shuffle and tap and leap while we figure it out. Basically, she was telling me to go with the flow. She said this when it became apparent that I was more of a “comfortable with long rehearsals” kind of kid.

It took me a few years, but I now understand that it’s all freestyle, and that’s okay, because eventually we’re all gonna find our own signature moves as we hustle our way toward happiness.

Forget about the judges who scrutinize and critique. Forget about rehearsing until you can do it perfectly. Get on that dance floor of life and boogie on down or bust a move however your heart directs. This is your dance, and you’ve got the spotlight. Come on.
