Day 209: I began my Smatterday by comparing it to the pioneers’ Saturdays, but as I went about my day, I started to feel really guilty. The things I consider chores, aren’t chores at all.
Buying groceries in a store that offers anything I can imagine, when they had almost nothing to eat; tossing laundry into machines that wash it for me, when they scrubbed theirs on rocks on the riverbank; buying new shoes because they’re cute, when they wrapped their feet with rags; driving to Salt Lake in less than an hour in an air-conditioned car, when they took months in life-threatening weather; and going to a restaurant where talented people cook delicious food while I sit in comfort, when they did everything by the sweat of their brow.
I apologize, Pioneers. There’s just no comparison.
