Day 188

Wanna go halfsies? #halfsies #sharing #halfway #overthehill #aging

Day 188: My husband and I are the same age. Well, I’m three months older - a fact he has yet to quit mentioning in 32 years of marriage - but still, we were born in the same year. I have noticed that the older we get, the more we go halfsies. We’ve begun sharing a meal at a restaurant, because “half is just right,” or we each get an entree and split both between the two of us so we can have pancakes AND an omelet. We share a dessert, because it is “half the calories.” We share popcorn and soda at the movies because it is “half the price.” If we order our own entree, we cut it in half and save it for tomorrow’s lunch. You see where I’m going with this . . .

I remember my mom and dad, and his mom and dad, doing the same thing. We mocked them. We did. Sorry, Parents. We meant no harm. We just didn’t understand the concept of HALFSIES.

Is it because portion sizes have grown grotesquely huge? Or does becoming an empty nester somehow require fewer calorie expenditures?

I don’t know the cause of this phenomenon, but you can bet that when he asks me if I want to share a carton of Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche ice cream, my answer will be YES. Because going HALFSIES Rocks! #MomsCompanyTowels #HalfwayWeek #HalfsiesRock #WannaGoHalfsies? #ThesePortionsAreHuge!
