Day 172

There is Sunshine in My Soul Today

Day 172: Hello, Summertime! Today is the first day of summer. It is also National Daylight Appreciation Day. We are urged to appreciate the sunshine because it is the Summer Solstice - the longest day of the year! That means the most sunshine, folks!

Mom loved to be outdoors, but as her asthma worsened, there were days when pollens were so high, she had to stay “cooped up” - her words, not mine. I think she appreciated a sun-shiny day even more than most because of her “cooped up” days.

To combat it, she would sing “There is sunshine in my soul today! More glorious and bright, than glows in any earthly sky, for Jesus is my light! Oh, there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine, when the peaceful happy moments roll; even when I’m cooped up inside this house of mine, there is sunshine in my soul.”
