Day 158: Perdiddles, eyelashes, and magic lamps.
When I was a kid, there was more than one long after-school bus ride devoted to the formulation of the perfect wish. We grade-schoolers knew the rules - one wish for the first person to slap the interior roof of the car when seeing another car with one headlight out, accompanied by the “perdiddle” shout. There was also one wish granted if you saw an eyelash on a friend’s cheek and could capture it on your finger for the wish before it blew into the breeze. And, more abstractly, we all knew that if we were lucky enough to come across a magic lamp, the resident genie would offer us no more than three wishes. With the universal rule barring us from wishing for more wishes, we had to be very strategic to find a way to get around the rules and turn one wish into more.
I know what you’re thinking. We would’ve been better served if we’d finished our homework on the bus, because the only people I know who ever lucked into a lamp-residing genie were Aladdin and Major Nelson.
But the thing is, even if we didn’t ever make any of those wishes, we opened our brains to the possibilities. We learned to problem solve with deductive reasoning. And we used our imaginations. That was probably the best lesson of all. So, if YOU were granted one wish, what would it be? #MomsCompanyTowels #whatsyourwish #magiclamp #genieinabottle #perdiddle #eyelashwishes
