Day 137

Moms and Weddings

Day 137: It’s Wedding Eve at our house! I’ve been thinking about my mom non-stop today, for so many reasons. I keep thinking about my own wedding and how hard she worked to prepare. She would kill me for showing people this photo. Sorry, Mom! This photo resides on the shelf above my sewing machine. I look at it all the time. My Aunt Mardi took it the day before my wedding, when Mom was doing some last-minute alterations to my wedding dress. She would hate this photo, because she was in the middle of major prednisone therapy for her asthma and had “blown up like an Oompa-Loompa” as she put it. She put on a happy face for all the wedding photos and made the most of it. The day she went through the temple with me was the last time she was able to go. She lasted ten more years after this photo, and boy, am I grateful for those ten years. And now I’m working hard to prepare for MY youngest daughter’s wedding.

Since my daughter is getting married on my mom and dad’s 76th anniversary, I’m also thinking about my mom’s wedding. She was 18. It was World War II. Dad was on leave. They got married at the courthouse in Ely, Nevada, by a cross-eyed judge. A far cry from the wedding she gave me. A far cry from the wedding my daughter will enjoy tomorrow. There’s a little part of me who is trying to make it an extra special day for her, too. I have no doubt my mother will be with us in spirit. No doubt. #MomsCompanyTowels #WeddingWeek #ThisIsForYouTooMom
