Day 131

Watercolor Roses by Zenna Longhurst

Day 131: I can’t spend a week talking about mothers without talking about my mother-in-law. On Wednesday, I explained my view on who is a mother - anyone who “mothers” is a mother, if you ask me, and my mother-in-law mothered me from the time my own mom died until she, herself, passed away last September. But, really, she began mothering me the first day David took me home when we were 16. She welcomed me. She hugged me. She visited with me. And as the years went by, she treated me like a daughter. Not just “like” a daughter. She claimed me as one of her own.

I have depended on her for all things motherly since my mom died, and having her join our other parents in Heaven was a bigger transition than I thought it would be. David and I are now the oldest generation. That is a sobering thought. This will be the first Mothers Day that David and I won’t be able to send her flowers. We loved sending her flowers, because she’d always end up painting them. She turned our gift into a cherished memory. Happy Mothers Day in Heaven to both of my moms. We love you to Heaven and beyond! #MomsCompanyTowels #HeavenlyMothersDay
