Day 126

Home: Never underestimate its power to tug you back within its walls.

Day 126: Have you ever been HOMESICK? Decades ago, when I was 12, jobless, and had lots of time to contemplate the mysteries of the universe, I decided I was feeling homesick, which didn’t make sense, considering I never went anywhere. Then I decided that I was feeling homesick for a place I’d never been. I was feeling homesick for a Heavenly home. My mother, in all her wisdom, told me it was entirely possible, because I had Heavenly Parents and many loved ones in Heaven to be homesick to see. After I first identified the feeling, it’s been easier to recognize when it flares up from time to time.

This morning I’m hanging out with three of my grandkiddos while their parents are at work/early church meetings/traveling overseas. Even though we’re having fun, they still ask when the parentals are coming home. And the parentals call to say they’re a bit homesick, themselves.

Home is where the heart is.

Last Christmas, our two daughters took precious time away from final exams to make a special gift for my husband and me — an addition to our Christmas village. They made a replica of our 120-year-old home, nestled it amongst the miniature neighborhood in our living room, and challenged us to find our gift. We didn’t know what we were looking for, but even then, there seemed to be a draw. Our daughters captured their childhood home. Even our miniature schnauzer who passed away last fall has a tiny replica sitting on the porch.

Home sweet home.

What each of us thinks of as HOME varies greatly, but whether we’re missing our Heavenly home, or the place we call Home now, or even a miniature version, never underestimate its power to tug you back within its walls. #MomsCompanyTowels #HomesickForHeaven #NeverUnderestimateThePowerOfHome
