Day 121: Happy May Day! I started the celebration by going to the airport at 4:00 A.M. to send off another group of students to the Jerusalem Center. Yesterday, I went on about growing up in an honest home. This morning, I’m thinking about leaving home as I watch these parents say goodbye to their student sons and daughters. For me, leaving home for college was exciting. But when I finally moved away permanently, it was harder. I kept assuring my mother (and myself) that we would move back home after my husband and I finished college, and she would say “No you won’t. You’ll learn more about the world, you’ll find a place to settle, and you’ll stay. And that’s okay. It’s what you’re meant to do.” I thought she was wrong. She wasn’t wrong. She was exactly right in her predictions. Yet, even now, even though she and Dad are gone from this world, I still call it home. It will always be home. Going away is good for us.
